Molven — Am I up or am I down?

Install it on your phone

Molven runs in the browser, so there is nothing to download and no installer to trust. Open it and it works. There is a step-by-step walkthrough if you would rather follow along.

Android, Chrome: open the app, go to Settings inside it, tap Install app. Or use the browser menu, Add to Home screen.

iPhone, Safari: tap Share at the bottom of the screen, then Add to Home Screen. It has to be Safari — Chrome on iOS cannot install web apps.

Once installed it opens full screen with its own icon, no address bar, and still opens with no connection. You just will not get fresh prices until you are back online.

Where your data lives

In your browser storage, on your device. There is no account, no server, and nothing is uploaded — the app has nowhere to send your positions even if it wanted to.

Two things follow from that, and both matter:

Clearing your browser site data deletes it. Settings, then Export file, writes a JSON copy to your downloads. Do it now and then.

It does not follow you to another phone. Export on one, Import on the other.

If a browser blocks storage — a private window, some in-app viewers — Molven still runs, it just forgets when you reload. Settings tells you which mode you are in.

Using the dashboard

Overview — total value, weighted change, a chart of your total over time, and your five largest positions.

Positions — the full list. Add position opens the form; hover any row and Edit appears. Filter by category or search by app, label or amount.

History — every snapshot. One is recorded each time you add, edit or delete something, and that's what the chart draws. Clear it whenever you like.

About "weighted change": it's not the average of your percentages. Each position's change counts in proportion to its value, so a 10% move on your largest holding matters more than a 10% move on your smallest. That's the number that reflects what actually happened to your total.

Entering values

Amount shown is free text — write it however you read it: a quantity and its unit, a dollar figure, a number of contracts. It's what appears on the row, and Molven fills it in itself once a position has a coin, a ticker or a wallet address.

Value in USD is the number that actually gets summed. This one has to be a plain number, no symbols, or the totals won't add up.

Change % is optional. Leave it blank and the row simply shows no badge.

Category fills itself from the app you pick, but you can override it — useful if you use one exchange purely as a wallet.

Wallet addresses

Paste a Solana or Ethereum address on a position and its quantity reads itself every refresh. Balance first, price second, value third — nothing typed.

Why addresses before exchange API keys: a public address is public. Anyone can look it up, and looking it up cannot move anything. No key to leak, nothing to revoke, no permission granted. It's the only automation here that carries no downside.

Addresses are shape-checked before any request leaves, so a typo never becomes a call. A bad address or an unreachable node reports the problem and changes nothing — your last known amounts stay put.

Native coin balances only for now. Tokens sitting inside those wallets are the next step.

Auto-refresh

On by default. Molven refreshes when it opens if the last prices are more than ten minutes old, then every fifteen minutes while the window is on screen. Automatic runs stay quiet — no popups unless you pressed the button yourself.

Settings → Auto-refresh turns it off, and then nothing leaves the machine until you ask.

Getting hold of me

The Ask a question form — in the menu, at the bottom of the page, and in the app's Settings — goes straight to the person who built this. No account, and an email is only needed if you want a reply.

Three kinds: a question, something that broke, or an idea. Picking "something broke" changes the prompt to ask for the details that actually help — what happened, what you expected, which phone or browser.

Nothing about your portfolio is attached to a message. It stays on your device; the form has no access to it.

The assistant

Updates and anything new go out on @molvenxyz.

Ask Molven — in the menu, at the bottom of the page, and from the app's Settings — answers questions about how any of this works. What it does, where your data lives, how prices and wallets work, what to do when something breaks.

It's built into the page rather than calling a service, so it answers instantly, costs nothing, and works with no connection at all.

It is a written knowledge base, not a language model. It knows Molven and nothing else — and when a question falls outside that, it says so instead of inventing an answer about your money. It also can't see your positions; those never leave your device.

Tokens inside a wallet

A wallet usually holds more than its native coin. Settings → Scan wallets for tokens reads what's sitting inside the addresses you pasted and turns each one into a position with the quantity already filled in.

There is no list of supported tokens. The chain is asked what the address actually holds — every SPL token account on Solana, every ERC-20 on Ethereum — and whatever comes back is priced by contract address. A token nobody trades is left out rather than shown at a made-up value.

Still no key. Solana exposes token accounts through the standard public RPC, Ethereum holdings come from Blockscout's public explorer API, and prices come from DefiLlama with DexScreener behind it for anything too new to be listed. Same principle as before: a public address is readable by anyone, and reading it moves nothing.

Scanning again updates the quantities rather than duplicating rows.

Filling in the chart

A new portfolio has no history, so the chart starts as an empty box. Fill in past 30 days reconstructs a shape from today's quantities valued at each past day's closing price.

It's a reconstruction, not a record — you probably didn't hold exactly this a month ago, and the app doesn't pretend otherwise. Reconstructed days are drawn faint, the solid line starts only where your real snapshots do, and "since yesterday" ignores them completely.

The moment a real snapshot exists for a day, it replaces the reconstructed one.

Day to day

Under the total sits one line: how much you're up or down since yesterday. If you skipped a few days it says so — "over the last 4 days" — rather than pretending the gap didn't happen.

It measures against the last day that closed, not the last time you pressed save, so editing a position five times in a row doesn't fake a move.

Sorting, notes and CSV

Sort the positions list by value, profit, profit percent, 24-hour change, name or date added, in either direction. Useful the moment you pass ten positions.

Notes — each position can carry a line about why you bought it. Three months on, that sentence is usually worth more than the numbers around it. A small dot on the row means there's a note.

Export CSV opens in Excel or Sheets, with a totals row at the bottom — for tax season, or for doing your own maths. The JSON export is the one that moves your data between devices.

Every figure in the export is either something you entered or a price that was looked up. There is no example data to strip out first, because Molven ships without any.

Where your money sits

The overview shows how your total splits up — by position or by type — as bars with a percentage on each. A slice at 40% or more turns amber, because that's the point where one holding starts deciding your whole result.

Underneath, one plain sentence: how much sits in your largest slice, whether one type dominates, and whether you simply have too few positions for the split to mean much yet.

Totals tell you how much you have. P&L tells you how it went. This tells you where the risk actually is — and most people find out they're heavier in one place than they thought.

Pure arithmetic on what you already entered. No network, works offline.

Profit and loss

Tell a position what you paid and Molven works out the rest. For a coin position that's the average buy price per unit — quantity does the multiplying. For anything else it's the total invested.

From that one number you get unrealised P&L on the overview, profit on every row, a What's moving the total panel showing your biggest gain next to your biggest drag, and a dashed cost line on the chart. The gap between the two lines is the profit.

Why it's the feature that matters: a total that rises because you deposited more looks exactly like a total that rises because you were right. Cost basis is the only thing that tells those two apart.

Leave it blank on any position you'd rather not track. It sits out of the profit maths instead of pretending you broke even.

Reading in rupiah

The button next to Refresh prices flips every figure in the app between USD and IDR. The rate arrives with the prices on the same refresh, so press refresh once before switching.

Nothing is converted in storage — your file stays in dollars and only the display changes, so switching back and forth can't drift your numbers.

Worth watching: if an asset gains 4% in dollars while the rupiah strengthens 2%, your real gain is closer to 2%. Reading both currencies makes that visible.

Stocks and the API layer

Give a position a stock ticker — AAPL, TSLA, NVDA — plus a quantity, and it prices itself the same way coins do. US listings for now.

Coins, wallets and everything on this page need no key at all, so Molven asks each service directly from your browser. Nothing sits in between, and there is nothing to deploy.

US stocks are the exception: no provider quotes them to a browser without a key, and a key in a static page is a key anyone can read. Molven says so plainly on those rows rather than showing a number it cannot stand behind.

Coin coverage went from 11 to 32 symbols in the same change.

Live prices

Give a position a Coin and a Quantity, then press Refresh prices. Molven looks up the current USD price and recalculates the value and the 24-hour change. Positions without a coin — equities, prediction markets, anything else — stay exactly as you typed them.

The coin list lives in the COINS map at the top of app/app.js — the key is the symbol you pick, the value is the id the price service knows it by. Adding one is a single line.

It only runs when you press the button. Nothing is fetched at startup or in the background, and the last prices are kept in your file so an offline app still shows real numbers rather than zeroes.

Prices come from CoinGecko, with DefiLlama behind it if CoinGecko is rate-limiting — two real feeds rather than one feed and a remembered number. Tokens found inside a wallet are priced by contract address instead, from DefiLlama with DexScreener covering anything too new to be listed.

Other platforms

Any phone or computer with a browser — works today, which is the whole point of the web version.

Installed to a home screen — Android and iPhone both, full screen and offline-capable.

Windows, macOS, Linux — a desktop build lives in the same codebase, wrapped with Electron. It ships when there is a machine free to compile it on; nothing in the interface has to change.

App Store and Play Store — the same code can be wrapped with Capacitor without a rewrite. That needs a Mac, a developer account and review, so it waits.

Questions people ask

Does it connect to my exchange accounts? No. You type what you hold. Coin prices and wallet balances are the only things fetched, and only when you refresh.

Is my data sent anywhere? No. Two requests leave: what a coin costs, and the balance of a public address you pasted. Neither carries an account, a key, or anything about your positions.

Do I need an account? No. There is nothing to sign up for, which is also why there is no password to lose.

What if I clear my browser? Your positions go with it. Export a copy from Settings first.

Is this financial advice? No. It adds up numbers you typed and prices it looked up. It does not recommend anything and cannot tell whether what you entered is right.
